In a very insightful presentation, ITM-guest researcher Prof. Dr. Zhou Lin addressed the significance of the droit de suite for art markets in general and the Chinese art market in specific. After introducing the audience to the Chinese art market and its characteristics in comparison to Europe, Prof. Zhou Lin presented the droit de suite’s general origin, its impacts on art trade and aspirations in China to introduce such a right to its copyright law. In conclusion, Prof. Zhou Lin stated that the droit de suite is a noble idea and it would be well enforced in a good regulated art market. But China in contrast to Germany lacked the conditions to enforce a droit de suite at the present.
