Journalism for young lawyers

Participants in this year’s additional training course during the introduction to court reporting techniques with WN editor Karin Völker (7th from right).

Once again this year, 16 young lawyers from all over Germany successfully completed the additional training course “Journalism and Law” at the ITM and received their certificates on Friday. The civil law department headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoeren offers the five-day block seminar at the end of each winter semester. Students, trainee lawyers, doctoral candidates and young professionals with a legal background can apply. From rhetoric exercises, career paths via journalism schools, practical tips from print journalism, editorial work in a trade journal, writing their own court reports to war reporting for television, this year’s participants spent a week gathering many impressions at an exciting interface. As was the case last year, a report on our experiences will be published on our website shortly. In addition, the current issue of the Westfälische Nachrichten from Tuesday contains, 19 March 2019, under the heading “Münster Universities”, a short article by Ms Völker, who once again taught the journalistic tools for a court report this year. The ITM is particularly looking forward to the next additional training course. 2020 marks the first anniversary of the additional training 20th time.
