AI and copyright in Austrian legal practice

In the video created in my lecture on copyright law at the University of Vienna, Marcel and Umut from the University of Vienna deal with the complex topic of “AI and copyright in Austrian legal practice” in a deliberately satirical way. Through humorous exaggerations, stereotypical depictions of experts and absurd interview situations, it sheds light on the challenges and ambiguities in this area of law.

Various aspects will be discussed, including the copyright relevance of training data for AI models, the application of the concept of work and the question of the level of creation for AI-generated content, the legal status and lack of copyright protection for works created purely by AI under current Austrian law, the distinction between AI as a tool and AI as a potentially autonomous creator, as well as the need for clear legal regulations and the search for fair solutions in view of the rapid technological development.
