Presentations on the topic of “Digitalization and big data in insurance”

Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoeren will open the interdisciplinary symposium “Digitalization and Big Data in Insurance ” of the Research Center for Insurance at the University of Münster today, Tuesday, 21.06.16, at 2 pm with a short lecture entitled “The new EU Data Protection Regulation and Big Data in Insurance”. This will be followed by further lectures from the fields of economics, philosophy and law, including “Challenges to private autonomy through big data” (Akad. Rat Dr. Dominik Schäfers, LL.M.) and “Big data in personal insurance”(Prof. Dr. Dominik Schäfers, LL.M.). Dr. Oliver Brand, LL.M. (Cantab.). From an ethical perspective, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Quante from the Department of Philosophy at the University of Münster on the discussion “Big data and insurance: Ethical tensions and conflicting goals”.

The area of big data is also the focus of the interdisciplinary
ABIDA
research project , which is led and coordinated by the Institute for Telecommunications and Media Law (ITM) and the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS). Prof. Dr. Hoeren is also the ABIDA project spokesperson.
