The EU’s data strategy creates a new area of law: data economy law. While data law has so far focused primarily on the protection of personal data and, more recently, the security of the data infrastructure, the new legal acts (Data Act, Data Governance Act and the sector-specific data rooms) are aimed primarily at the efficient use of data through the sharing of data. This will create a single European market for data. The European Health Data Space (EHDS) is the first data space of its kind specifically for the healthcare sector. The requirements of the EHDS will have a significant impact on health data research in the future and mean considerable changes for university hospitals, medical faculties and health data research in general.
In this episode, research associates Johanna Voget and Ole-Christian Tech provide an overview of the complex regulatory framework and its role in the European data strategy.
