Mr. Toshihiro Wada talks about Japanese data protection law as part of the Christmas seminar project at TU Dortmund University

Mr. Toshihiro Wada, PhD student and research assistant at ITM, talks about Japanese data protection law as part of the Christmas seminar project at TU Dortmund University. In the seminar “Social Media and Law”, organized by Prof. Dr. Tobias Gostomzyk, an Advent calendar was “tinkered”. The aim is to revisit important publications on media and/or internet law that appeared in 2018. From the ITM, the seminar participants include the article “Data protection in Japan” from the “Zeitschrift für Datenschutz”, which Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoeren published with Mr. Wada (in ZD, issue 1/2018, C.H. Beck Verlag, pp. 3-5). Mr. Wada appears as one of the interview partners for a “calendar door” in a series of video interviews. The ITM would like to thank you for your cooperation.

Details of the seminar project can be found here.

Comment on the third question (around 4:17): If the EU assesses the adequacy decision for Japan and Japan also recognizes the EU’s level of data protection, the data processor can transfer personal data from Japan to Germany somewhat more easily, as is already the case for domestic data transfers in Japan.
