Social media platforms like Facebook cannot process all types of personal data, including data obtained outside the platform, without limits, for the purpose of targeted advertising. The GDPR principle of data minimization prohibits the unlimited and indiscriminate use of personal data without differentiation according to its type for targeted advertising. Even if a user publicly discloses their sexual orientation, the platform cannot process additional sensitive data on that topic gathered from third-party sources.   <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 110%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/curia.europa.eu\/juris\/document\/document.jsf?text=&amp;docid=284262&amp;pageIndex=0&amp;doclang=en&amp;mode=lst&amp;dir=&amp;occ=first&amp;part=1&amp;cid=104143\"><strong>ECJ, 27.03.2024, C-639\/23 &#8211; Amazon DSA<\/strong><\/a> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 110%;\">This ruling is a recent example of what it means to be classified as a VLOP under the DSA, i.e. to be more closely regulated as a company.
